As of April of 2016, 734 has been out of service to prepare for her 1,472 day inspection. It is expected to take some time with 1309 expected to return to steam soon.

The 734 will go down for her 1472 at the end of 2015. Apparently she has already undergone some running gear work, but the engine has seen better days and is ready for an overhaul. She was last given a 1472 in 2000-2001.

The headlight on WMS 734 was donated by me. It is from CB&Q 4-6-3 3010 that was in the Northwestern Steel & Wire scrap line in Sterling, Ill. The light at the end of the tunnel ... IS MINE! :)

WMSR No.734 or L.S.&.I. RR No.34 (Lake Superior & Ishpeming Railroad) was released from Baldwin Locomotive Works on April 16, 1916. She was built with 57 inch drivers and a operating preasure of 185psi. She worked in the L.S.&.I.'s base in Marquette,Michigan. She worked there wiht her sisters (33,35, and 36) until No.34 was retired in 1956. She sat in the Marquette deadline intill 1971 when she and No.35 were bought by the IRR (Illinoes Railroad Museum). No.34 sat there until 1992 when she was bought by the WMSR from Restoration. She was restored in a year by the shop forces and now has several improvements. No. 734 has an 200psi boiler preassure and a new tender from a NYC Mohawk No.2662. She also got renumbered and many improvements were made to her to make her look like a WMRY 2-8-0. Although she represents every class of the WMRY's 2-8-0's

That is correct, the tender 734 carries behhind her now is off of NYC Mohawk 2662. Her original tender was too small to carry the coal ad water needed for the trips she powers. Her L.S.&I. tender was also badly damaged in a fire creating a huge hole in the water bunk. It is now perminantly retired to track 12 of WM Ridgely shops. A note to the moderators of this site, 734 had her tires replaced this year (early 2006) her drivers are now 57 inches tall.

My dates were wrong. Lake Superior & Ishpeming RR No. 34 was retired in 1951 by the L.S.&I then sold to Marquette & Huron Mountain Railroad Copany in July of 1663. Then in November of 1967 it was sold to the Illinois Railway Museum. Then in 1991 t was purchased by the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad.
