The overhaul on BR Standard 4MT 2-6-4T No. 80098, is progressing on as the boiler is undergoing a heavy rebuild at Heritage Boiler Steam Services Ltd. near liverpool, as its having a new barrel, new steel smokebox door and throat plates plate fitted. The Princess Royal Locomotive Trust hope to have No. 80098 back in steam by 2027.

The overhaul of BR Standard 4MT 2-6-4T No. 80098, has now stepped up as the boiler has been sent to Heritage Boiler Steam Services Ltd. near liverpool to be overhauled while work on the locomotive continues in the Princess Royal Locomotive Trust base at their West Shed at the Midland Railway - Butterley.

BR Standard 4MT 2-6-4T No. 80098 is to join 6233 "Duchess of Sutherland" out on the mainline as its to be overhauled to mainline standards again by its owners the Princess Royal Class Locomotive Trust which will take five years. No. 80098 was a mainline runner in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

80098 is currently being overhauled and could be back in service in 2017.

One of two 4MT tank locos owned by the Princess Royal Locomotive Trust, 80098 is the BR 'Standard' development of the LMS Stanier 2-6-4T. These class 4 tank locos were popular for suburban work. Their other 4MT tank loco is 80080, but their real stars are the 'Princess Royal' and 'Duchess' pacifics
