LMS Black 5 No. 45110 was one of the locomotives involved in hauling very last BR steam-hauled mainline train on the rail network of the UK on the 11th of August 1968. The train was the 1T57 "Fifteen Guinea Special" which ran from Liverpool via Manchester to Carlisle via the Settle and Carlisle Railway and back. 45110 was one of four locomotives working that final steam run along with sister Black 5s 44871 and now long since scrapped 44781 along with No. 70013 "Oliver Cromwell. 45110 worked the first and last leg of the journey from Liverpool to Manchester and back after which the locomotive went in to preservation at the Severn Valley Railway. To mark the 50th anniversary of the end of steam 45110 is to come out of the engine house museum and be on a rare display outside at Kidderminster Station for the Last Days of Steam event to be held on the 4th of August 2018.

I am the 76 year old daughter of the last engine driver, Fred Smith, who drove the 45110 on its last steam journey from Carlisle to Lime Stree Station, Liverpool in September, 1968. I have newspaper clippings of the last run plus photographs of my Dad on the 45110 on the last run as well as my diary that I kept after he retired. I would be very willing to share these and stories (from my memories and those told to me by my father)with any enthusiast. Best wishes Pat
