The overhaul and rebuild on ex GWR Castle Class 4-6-0 No. 5029 "Nunney Castle" back to mainline standards is progressing at LNWR Heritage at Crewe as the brand new set of middle cylinders have been cast and are yet to be machined and a brand new flat sided Hawksworth tender tank has been built to replace the Collett style tender as it was badly corroded. But the new tender tank is an accurate reflection of the BR era.

No. 5029’s overhaul and rebuild is underway and is a big job but will pick up when the overhaul’s on both No. 70000 "Britannia" and No. 60532 "Blue Pter" are completed. No. 5029’s middile cylinder block needs replacing so a new one will be casted along with work on the mainframes of the locomotive. A new firbox crown has been made and the boiler is in the boiler shop at Crewe awaiting work. 5029’s tender has been moved to Tyseley locomotive works having a brand new tender tank made and fitted and having work on its bottom end referbished. It will be a few years until we see 5029 back in steam again.

No. 5029 is having some modification work being done to her boiler during her overhaul. As a new improved later pattern tree-row superheater is being fitted to her boiler which will help with the locomotive’s steaming and performance on the mainline more when she returns from her current overhaul.

Work on No. 5029 is progressing slowly as her boiler is in the main boiler shop at Crewe being worked on. But work on the locomotive is on hold but I was told it will pickup when work on 60532 nears completion.

From whats been said in Steam Railway Magazine 5029 will need a lot more work done on her then first thought so it take a few years for her to steam again.
