The newly overhauled ex GWR 4200 Class 2-8-0T No. 4247, has been fully painted in the early BR Black livery with British Railways lettering on the side tanks which is the first time No. 4247 has been turned out in this style of livery in preservation. No. 4247 is now set to makes its debut back in traffic during the East Somerset Railway’s Steam Gala Weekend on the 31st of May and 1st of June 2025.

The overhaul on ex GWR 4200 Class 2-8-0T No. 4247, has just been completed as the locomotive is now back together with the boiler along with cladding, cab and side tanks all refitted and the locomotive is now ready for testing and final painting.

The overhaul on ex GWR 4200 Class 2-8-0T No. 4247, has reached a milestone as the boiler was successfully passed its hydraulic test and is now ready for steam testing and the locomotive is in the final stages of its overhaul which should be completed soon.

4247 is to be sent to the East Somerset Railway in the next few days for a contract overhaul there. Once this is completed she will be loaned to the Dartmouth Steam Railway for a minimum of 20 years. No work will be done until Large Prairie 4110 is finished later in the year.

I believe 4247 is currently out of service. Not sure what the problem is; she was taken out of service in December 2018.
