It has been announced that the former New York Central Railroad Alco built 4-8-2 No. 3001 is to be restored to full working order again for the first time since 1957. No. 3001 has been placed into the care of the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society following a partnership between them and the National New York Central Railroad Museum which will see a new strategic plan for the Museum’s redevelopment. Fort Wayne has issued a $100,000 challenge grant to kick off the $4.3 million restoration of the 84 year old locomotive, with the first goal to raise $500,000 by May 3rd, 2025, and when restored No. 3001 will be the only operational New York Central Railroad steam locomotive in preservation.

Well...I'd be happy to replace it with a more current photo, if someone would be so kind as to provide it. I'm not offended. The way I figure it, any photo of a particular locomotive is better than no photo at all.

No offense, but that photo is inaccurate. 3001 has been cosmetically restored and is on static display.
