The boiler ticket has now run out, and the P3 made a final appearance in steam at Darlington Railway Centre and Museum on the weekend 7th to 9th June 2006. Now in the queue for overhaul, it will go into Darlington's North Road museum until the work is completed on the J72 tank loco in NELPG's nearby workshop. The Fletcher 901 is returning to York, which will make space for the P3.

The P3 is set to move to the Shildon 'Locomotion' museum where it will undertake light duties only. This is because of a crack in the cylinder block. As the loco is nearing the end of its boiler ticket, it will probably be attended to during its next overhaul.

The J27 (or P3 if you prefer NER classification) continues its UK travels. After its winter visit to the East Lancashire Railway, it has now moved to the newly re-opened Weardale Railway, where, with a Tanfield Railway Austerity 0-6-0ST it was to haul the opening train. This is the second time this loco has pulled the opening train - it did the same job on the NYMR back in 1973! At the end of the summer, it is expected to return to the NYMR.

The loco has been returned to North Eastern Railway black livery in summer 2003, with its oval cast brass cabside number plates. Still based at Grosmont, it has had attention to a hot driving axle bearing and big ends this summer.

This loco represents the final development of the North Eastern Railway 0-6-0 goods locomotive. It is of traditional British design, with two inside cylinders and, as built, did not have continouous brakes fitted. This is the final loco of all in the class, built in 1923, and withdrawn at the end of steam in North East England in 1967. Bought by the North Eastern Locomotive Preservation group, she has worked widely on UK preserved lines. The usual base is at Grosmont, on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
