The ex London, Brighton & South Coast Railway Terrier 0-6-0T W8 "Freshwater" has been taken out of service for its 10 year overhaul. It is hoped the locomotive could be back in traffic by the late summer of 2019?

One of several LB&SCR 'Terriers' preserved, all of them over 100 years old. Stroudley's classic Victorian tank engine, they look tiny as the coaches tower over them, but they are powerful for their size. This one was named 'Freshwater' as the Southern Railway named their locos on the Isle of Wight after places served by their system on the island. They had a seperate numbering system on the island, hence the very low number. It is shown in Southern Railway green, which is appropriate, as earlier liveries would not have been seen on the island's Terriers, as they were only transferred here after the grouping of 1923, when it was already nearly 50 years old.
