The ex LMS Black Five 4-6-0 No. 45407 “The Lancashire Fusilier”, is in Scotland over the Christmas season to work a series of steam hauled mainline Polar Express Trains around Edinburgh during December 2024.

The ex LMS Black Five 4-6-0 No. 45407 “The Lancashire Fusilier”, is no longer based at the East Lancashire Railway anymore as it is now located and based at Riley & Son Engineering Ltd. at Heywood in Lancashire, where it is kept and maintained in between mainline dutys and heritage railway visits.

Having fininshed working the Polar Express over the festive season at the Wensleydale Railway for another year, ex LMS Black Five 4-6-0 No. 45407, is returning home to the East Lancashire Railway for the winter to be ready for another season out on both the mainline and heritage railway circuit in 2024.

With its mainline dutys hauling the Jacobite Trains on the West Highland Line in Scotland, over for another season, ex LMS Black Five 4-6-0 No. 45407 is making a return visit to the Wensleydale Railway again to work their Polar Express Train Rides over the Christmas season and mince pie specials into the New Year, after this No. 45407 will return to its winter base at the East Lancashire Railway to be ready for another season in the West Highlands of Scotland again in 2024.

The ex LMS Black Five 4-6-0 No. 45407 will be visiting the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway to star at their Spring Steam Gala from the 9th to 12th of March 2023. Where she will join sister Black Five’s No. 44871 and 45212 for the event.

For the 2018 season out on the mainline and heritage railway circuit LMS Black 5 No. 45407 will be running in the guise as long lost class mate No. 45157 "The Glasgow Highlander". As 2018 marks 150 years since the regiment of the same name was formed. The Black 5 has been in this guise before from 2000 to 2003.

LMS Black 5 No. 45407 will be heading to the West Highlands of Scotland to work some Christmas Jacobite trains from Fort William to Mallaig till the 29th of December.

One of the many preserved LMS 'Black 5' class. A popular loco which was a leading player up to the last wisp of steam on UK's main line system. The album photo shows it arriving at Scarborough in the 1970's in pre war LMS livery. In 2003 it was running in 1950's British Railways lined black as No 45157, 'The Glasgow Highlander' The loco is dual braked so can haul both traditional vacuum braked stock as well as more modern air braked stock.
