The sole survivor of the class, it was originally built as an 0-6-0 tender loco by Beyer Peacock in 1881, being rebuilt as a saddle tank loco in 1896. Although some survived on the national network into the 1960's, none were preserved direct from British Railways. 11456 was withdrawn before nationalisation (hence no BR number)and sold into industry - yet another example of rare survivors from pre-grouping companies that were preserved as a result of working in industry. The loco came to preservation from the National Coal Board at Parsonage Colliery, Leigh. So it didn't go far from Lancashire & Yorkshire territory!
