The remains of Kerr Stuart 685 are displayed at the Beaconsfield Mine & Heritage Centre. The loco worked on Wyett Tramway. Originally it was a horse drawn tramway built in the expanding gold town of Beaconsfield. In 1886 the tramway was extended to Beauty Point and steam locomotives took over. 685 was their third and last loco ordered.

In 1903 Tasmania Gold Mining company purchased the tramway but due to regular flooding the mine closed 1914. The tramway closed December 1915. 685 later moved to Camden district and the boiler was removed to be used as a stationary boiler powering a saw mill. What remained of the locomotive is now at the Beaconsfield museum.

The loco is plinthed in an inaccessible part of the museum but a window in the museum looks out at the left side of the loco giving a good view. Except for the boiler & support most of what you see is original. The right side is missing the motion & cylinders.

The Mine & Heritage Centre is well worth a visit. Being part of the old gold mine with plenty of artefacts on display.
