The construction of New-build replica GWR Hawksworth County Class 4-6-0 No. 1014 "County of Glamorgan" is progressing well at Didcot as the boiler and Cab have successfully been trial fitted to the locomotive and the newly constructed 8’6"wide Hawksworth tender is nearly complete. The boiler will soon be sent back to Heritage Boiler Steam Services of Liverpool for its final stages of construction and it is hoped that No. 1014 could be in steam later this year in 2023 or early 2024?

Both locomotive and tender have been re-wheeled and work is concentrating on the firebox and building the boiler.

This project continues to move forward. As ever, the Great Western Society means business! The wheels have been cast and the axles and tyres are to be ordered form South Africa.

The final development of the Great Western 2 cylinder 4-6-0, the 'County' class were all scrapped. However, the fact that so much of Great Western standardisation means that parts from other classes can be used to re-create lost types has spurred this project into being. The frames are from 'Hall' class 7929 'Willington Hall', which was dismantled at Llangollen to provide the boiler for the 'Grange' project (see 6880 'Betton Grange' at Llangollen, and notes on 'Willington Hall', shown at Didcot)

The boiler will be from LMS 2-8-0 No48518, which was dismantled at Llangollen and the remains are now at Ian Riley's in Bury. Now this boiler derives its ancestry from GWR practice, although it is domed and not tapered in quite the same way as a 'County' boiler, but it is very close. This boiler is currently at Crewe for modification as part of the project.

New components will be wheels and motion and a tender.
