This class of seven locomotives was built in 1908 for Hungarian State Railway road numbers 4291 to 4297 They were renumbered 40.001 to 40.007 in 1911 and passed to Roumania in 1919 where they kept the 40 series numbers. All withdrawn in 1978

Loco has been overhauled and is in working condition. It is located at TISOVEC in SLOVAKIA for working to Zbojska, and now carries the running number 4296.

Locomotive had been sold to Slovakian stater railways museum and transfered to Bratislava works togehter with her "sister" 40.003. One of them is being restortd into working condition using spare parts from the second. Loco is planned to be used on incline near Brezno in central Slovakia. Locos CFR 40.0 class are simmilar to Czechoslowakian state railways cogwheelers class 403.5 (all had been scrapped today) and 404.0. (only one is preserved, but afer spliting Czechoslowakia stayed in Czech republic).
