Status should be "stored". Location should be "JR East Morioka Depot". At the end of the 2023 season the "SL Ginga" excursions came to an abrupt end citing mechanical issues with the converted DMUs used as coaches (these were promptly scrapped). The locomotive has a boiler ticket until Feb 2025. Whether JR East will authorize the next 8 year overhaul remains to be seen.

This locomotive was taken out from its display at Kotsu Koen park (December 4, 2012) and given a full restoration to working order by JR East in their Omiya shops (test fired December 12, 2013 and returned to traffic January 6, 2014). She now runs regular excursions on the Kamaishi line. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SL_Ginga
