This locomotive proved to be too small for the Georgetown Loop after two (?) seasons and is now in Breckinridge for operations, instead of 111, which is going to the Georgetown Loop for operations in 2010 or later.

#9 is currently running the Georgetown Loop trips after a major accident with #12. One of #12's drivers popped off during a run. After two weeks of running #21 and minor repairs to #9 it made its first run solo on 9/19/06

The #9 has also been converted to an Oil Burner following its restoration for the Georgetown Loop.

The #9 is being restored by the Uhrich Locomotive Works; the Colorado Historical Society boasts it will be operable by May 28th. The boiler is an unreinforced lap-seam pressure vessel with a welded patch on the crown sheet; though a scary thought to many, it CAN operate; given it will need some intensive yearly inspections. The Uhrichs are well-known in the field and will do a fine job; however, this doesn't prove the fact that it is underpowered and extremely old; and not suitable to replace the previous motive power on the Loop by the previous operators, GLR Inc. The Georgetown Loop equipment (WSL Shays 12 and 14, IRCA 2-8-0s #40 and 44) have all been moved off property along with everything else to Golden at the CRRM, as well as some rolling stock to Royal Gorge. There is NOTHING left from the operation for the past 30 years at Silver Plume. West Side Shay #8, which last operated in the 80s, remains a display at the GLR Offices across the street from the former location as a reminder of what once was.

This locomotive has now been moved to Strasburg Colorado for possible restoration and use on the Colorado Historical Societies new Georgetown Loop.  They kicked the old operator off along with their 3 shays and the number 40 a 2-8-2.  It has since been determined that #9 cannot be placed back in service with its current boiler.

This locomotive was in our database twice, once as an 'Unknown' at Silver Plume, CO and once at the Black Hills Central in Hill City, SD. Thanks to information from Jeff Terry and Mike Grice, the steam foreman at the Black Hills Central, we now have the locomotive in the right place. Jeff Terry wrote: "It has been cosmetically restored on one side(the side the faces the tracks) by the Boulder Model Railroad Club. The locomotive is owned by the Colorado Historical Society who is planning some sort of conservation/preservation work for it; No. 9 will eventually be placed in the new rolling stock display building at Silver Plume."
