From the Orange Empire Museum Gazette October 2006

A brief history of Chleo. A small 0-4-2T built by Baldwin in 1907, Class 06-8-1/3C-16, for C. Brewer & Co. in Hawaii. The locomotive was reboilered in 1937. In 1948, Ward & Betty acquired the locomotive from the scapper of Waimanalo Suger Co. in Hawaii. It came over by cargo ship with Jerry Best"s engine Olomana (BLW) 1883 now at Strasburg, Pa.

Ward hired Ollie Johnson to back date the appearance of the engine to 1883 by raising the boler, removing the saddle tank, putting on a fake builder's plate, colorful paint scheme and other tricks. Built as a coal burner, Ward converted it to wood fuel. Chloe won"t go on display until late December.

From the Orange Empire Railway Museum Gazette, October 2006

The Kimball family has decided it was time to move Chloe out to Orange Empire Museum. Three 4-wheel passenger cars, Buda Handcar and velocipede were also donated. The Chloe was initially donated along with Emma Nevada and coach No. 5 in 1991, but by varbal agreement between the museum and the Kimballs, Chloe stayed with the family. The locomotive has been the center of Kimball gatherings since 1950. It has operated during holidays at their San Gabriel home.

The call to come and get the Chloe toke the Museum by surprise, but quickly with the contractor and money to safely make the move. The engine was received on Saturday September 23.

This engine was originally #2, Pokaa, of the Waimanalo Plantation.  It was restored by Ward Kimble and placed into service on the Grizzly Flats Railroad as #1, Chloe.  It will probably by donated to the Orange Empire Railroad Museum eventually to be displayed with its Grizzly Flats stablemate  2-6-0 Emma Nevada.
