The overhaul on former Canadian Pacific Railroad H1b Class Hudson 4-6-4 No. 2816 is in its final stages as it has been announced by her owners Canadian Pacific Kansas City Railroads that the locomotive is set to return to the mainlines of Canada and the United States of America this summer. Their are plans for former Canadian Pacific Railroad H1b Class Hudson 4-6-4 No. 2816 to return to the mainline of Canada and the United States of America again as the Canadian Pacific Railroad’s CEO Keith Creel appears to be trying to gain the support of steam fans for his company’s merger with Kansas City Southern Railroad. If successful the plan is to use 2816 on a special excursion train over the newly formed Canadian Pacific and Kansas City Railroad system. For this to happen 2816 will need a full overhaul, as mandated by the Federal Railroad Administration in order to run on the mainlines of both Canada and the United Stares of America again. 2816 has not ran on the mainlines since 2013 but will be a welcome site.

In a surprising announcement it turns out that former Canadian Pacific Railroad Hudson 4-6-4 No. 2816 is still operational as it is being steamed for one-time-only to pull a “virtual” edition of Canadian Pacific’s Holiday Train in the yard at Calgary this Christmas. The locomotive was steam tested by Canadian Pacific to assess its mechanical position but there are no plans to take the locomotive on the mainlines of Canada anytime soon. No. 2816 has been stored undercover in serviceable condition the last eight years, receiving regular maintenance in the event it was returned to service. 2816 will be filmed hauling the Holiday Train later this month and the Holiday Train video will be available online over Christmas.

The "Alco-Montreal Construction Number List" indicates that Construction Numbers 68529 through 68538, Road Numbers 2810 through 2819 were shipped to "Canadian Pacific" during November and December of 1930. All of the unit were 4-6-4's and had a "Specified" total weight of 351,000 pounds. (This is not necessarily the "Actual" total weight)
