The compressor was fitted on Sept. 10th, however it was not connected. The Compressor was in working order by the 27th of Sept. Also, another test steam was conducted on the 10th to make sure the appliances were working correctly.

Some of your dimentional data is incorrect.

The locomotive was built 06/1923.

194,000 is the operating weight, not the light weight.

The tractive effort is 46,400 lbs.

The cylinders are 23" X 27"

The locomotive has a Wotten firebox with 70 sq. ft of grate surface.

The locomotive was sold to Railway Restoration Project 113 in 6/1986.

The locomotive was moved to Minersville in 2/91.

113 was the last Jersey Central Railroad steam locomoteve under steam.  It last operated in 1/1960.

Restoration began in earnest in 1999 with a complete teardown of everything above the running gear.  All the tubes and flues have been removed and ultrasound testing is complete.  All of the approximately 900 flexible staybolts, sleeves, and caps have to be replaced with a large percentage already removed.  New staybolts, caps, and sleeves are on site and ready to be installed.

The tender tank is in the process of being rebuilt and should be delivered to the site in 2005.  New wooden decking is being installed on the tender frame and new leaf springs are being fabricated for the tender trucks.

When 113 arrived in Minersville, it was completely stripped and many parts had to be scrounged.  An incomplete list includes: turbogenerator, air compressor, power reverse unit, boiler injector (still looking for more), boiler check valves, throttle arm, reverse lever and quadrant, headlight and tender light, and bell.  Some of these parts were original and were brought back.

Another incomplete list of wooden patterns and castings made are: two types of grates, tender steps, builders and number plates, firebox door dogs, numerous small fittings, stack, and base.  The latter two were formed from styrofoam patterns which were "lost" in the casting process.

It would be nice if we could purchase or have an original Jersey Central three chime step top whistle with a horizontal valve donated to the project.  We know of a whistle but it is not for sale.

Railway Restoration Project 113 is a non-profit 501 (C) 3 corporation.

I believe this is one of only 2 remaining CNJ steam locomotives in the country. Was cosmetically restored by the W&W and displayed for a few years in Marshallton Yard.
