This locomotive should more accurately be recorded as NS No. 5085 after it’s WD number of 73755, subsequently named ‘LONGMOOR’, and as displayed, after itarrived in the country, following initial work in neighbouring Belgium, based at Tournai following WW2.

One of the surviving 'Austerity' locos built for the British Army by North British during the Second World War. Many of these locos served in Europe after the invasion of 1944, being shipped across the English Channel by train ferry. The name 'Longmoor' on the loco refers to the Royal Corps of Transport base at Longmoor in Hampshire, England which provided training in railway operations for soldiers until closure in the 1970's. Several are preserved in the UK - No 600 'Gordon' remained the property of the Army until 2008 and is now in the Engine House museum on the Severn Valley Railway at Highley in Worcestershire - worth a look to compare the drab wartime livery of this one with the post war glamour of No 600!
