BUILDER Ansaldo 908 of 1911. The movement of this loco from Verona might explain why 740.002 has gone there.

One of several preserved Italian locos with the unusual arrangement of inside cylinders with outside valve gear and valves. To people used to the other more usual arrangements they look strange at first.

Is this arrangement unique to Italy?

Another feature of these locos is the leading Zara truck which carries the leading pony wheels and the leading drivers. You can make it out on close inspection of the photo.
