The Allen County Historical Society has done some remodeling and the Shay now resides indoors in an extension of the ACHS building about 30-40 Yards North of its former location (the one shown in the current [2010] photograph). Unfortunately the new site provides even more challenges for photographers.

This 36" gauge Shay has been exhibited in a small metal building that has a large glass viewing area on the east side, facing North Metcalf St. in downtown Lima, OH.  The acetylene torch was literally stopped after cutting had begun in 1951.  The late John H. Keller begged the scrappers to stop until he could get the Lima Stone Co. to agree to donate it to the Allen County Historical Society.  B-L-H, corporate successors to the Lima Locomotive Works, did the restoration at "The Loco" and used Lima-built cranes to place the Shay adjacent to the Allen County Museum.  The "glass house" was built around the Shay and is just around the corner from the Allen County Museum, 620 W. Market St., Lima.  Photos are difficult due to reflections in the glass and the glass area is not really quite large enough to view the locomotive in its entirety, but the locomotive is well protected.
