A few corrections: The 2100 is not owned by Midwest. It is being restored by a group that leases space there. Other steam locomotives that have run on the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic, besides 4070, are Ohio Central (CP)1293, and NKP 765. It is hoped that 2100 will be able to run there too, once it is completed. I am part of the restoration team.

As others have said, the status of the locomotive should read "Restoration." While progress has been very slow and hampered by the presence of 2100 and other projects in and around the roundhouse (including stabilizing structure from an incident 15 years ago), MRPS has been slowly working on the locomotive. I was present in 2015 to watch them fix a section of the smokebox. The long term goal of the organization remains returning the engine to operation so it can run in the Cuyahoga Valley and possibly along other lines in Northeast Ohio and the Midwest again.

This locomotive doubleheaded around horseshoe curve in 1972 with Reading T-1 2102. There is a video of this in A Century And A Half Around Horseshoe Curve.

In approximately 1969, this engine was restored by the Midwest Railway Historical Society in Cleveland, Ohio.  It was housed in the Erie, Pa roundhouse.  I rode this train for I believe its maiden run after restoration.  Having grown up in the coal mining part of W.Va. watching the steam trains haul coal I was absolutely fascinated by the opportunity to ride on it.  I actually got to ride in the cab as it was being put to bed after it's run.  They stopped and did a couple of steam runs that day.  I unfortunately don't remember where we went nor do I still have the pictures that I took on that steam run.

Hope that this sheds a little light on its provenance.  One of the fellas involved in the restoration was Jim Truesdale (sp), he worked at that time for the Missouri Pacific Railroad in Cleveland - originally from Louisana.

Any one know history of this engine before being re-numbered from 3734? Where was it run out of, ie. Detroit? Re: father was a fireman, grandfather was an engineer for GTWRR 1950-53. They could have driven this engine, would like to find out if so. TY
