The engine has been cosmetically restored and some of the missing parts have been made of hollow aluminum. You are no longer able to climb into the cab and the windows have been blocked off.

This engine is in a sad state of affairs with no effort being made to maintain appearance or to keep the unit from degradation. Parts have been stripped and it is rusting badly. What a shame.

As an interested party, this is to inform you that the owners never did abandon the subject engine. STEAM was uncooperative in efforts to return the engine to its owners in St. Albans. Dennison was glad to have any junk in any condition when the engine was moved to their location for "Safe Keeping". Receint efforts by the Dennison Group to obtain title from a minority owner, Nick Kallas have been met with the following objections by the majority owners. This information may be found at www.alco2700.com

Wendy @ the Dennison Depot, has informed me that the alleged owner which abandoned the engine some 20+years ago in canton is trying to fight a legal battle to take the engine from them, they have put some money into the preservation of the loco and the outcome will be known sometime in august. if the depot keeps her cosmetic restoration will proceed , i personally have looked the engine over and she is sadly in need of work, hopefully there will be a quick resolve for the depot.

This locomotive may be the main power for the Newark scenic railroads line out of Mount Vernon Ohio. This is provided the Museum get the ownership to her. To find out more about NSRR, please e-mail me at traindude@windstream.net

Ohio Central is not restoring the engine because the engine is not owned by Ohio Central, but by the Dennison Depot Museum. OC stepped in to help save the locomotive, but that's all.

There are no plans to rebuild this locomotive. Ohio central has too many steam locomotives to restore that this locomotive is not even on there web page at www.ocsteam.com

The 2700 was given a new paint job prior to Trainfestival 2004, so it looks somewhat better than the picture here. Long term plans are to cometically restore the engine.

This much traveled locomotive started out in Charleston, WV park;  then St. Albans, WV;  it may have been in Cincinnati for a while;  then to STEAM at Canton, OH for an unfinished restoration (locomotive completely stripped);  FWRHS at New Haven, IN began a contract purchase but did not complete;   threatened with scrapping in Canton, OH,  by landlord, the Ohio Central RR stepped in and moved the loco to Dennison, OH Depot Museum to save it;  repainted  and other basic cosmetics only.  Thank you Jerry Joe Jacobsen and the OCRR.
