this locomotive was the first one to have a 1-piece frame/cylinder casting, which permitted modern power to be built.  on the trra, it switched the commonwealth steel/general steel castings plant at granite city, il. i understand from a freind at gsi that they wanted it saved, and worked with trra to save it.  many of the older poeple at gsi considered the 1-piece integral frame casting to be their single most important development.
