573 was indeed one of the last steamers to run on the Wabash. A bridge near Meridocia, Ill. couldn't support the weight of a diesel, so steam was still used.

The "Alco-Rhode Island Construction Number List" indicates that Construction Numbers 3144 through 3147, Road Numbers 751 through 754, were shipped to the "Wabash" during October and November of 1899. All of the units were 2-6-0 "Compounds". Cylinders were 20 1/2" X 28" and 32 1/2" X 28". Drivers were 63".

Whne I went to St. Louis and saw this in the Museum of Transportation I was told that this was the last steam locomotive that operated on the Wabash
