The former SNCF (French Railways) and ETAT Class 241A 4-8-2 Mountian No. 241A65, has returned to steam and hauled its first mainline passenger train following completion of a heavy overhaul. No. 241A65 is one of Europe’s most famous steam locomotives and is a top mainline performer in and around Switzerland. She was built in 1931 by Fives-Lille and was one of many Class 241A 4-8-2 locomotives built between 1926 to 1934 for SNCF. No. 241A65 had spent some time in Germany during the second world war and was based at Erfurt before returning to France in 1946. The Class 241A were mainley used on express trains in the east of France working between Paris to Stasbourg and Basel until the mid-1960s. No. 241A65 was withdrawn from service in 1965 but it was used as a stationary heating loco until 1968 in Chaumont, after which it was bought for preservation by a Swiss enthusiast and was moved to Switzerland as a museum pice for display. It was restored to full working order for mainline running in 1997 and is now approved for use on the Swiss mainline network. No. 241A65 is one of two survivors of the Class 241A in preservation as the other memeber to survive is prototype member which is on display in the French National Railway Museum Cite du Train - Patrimoine SNCF at Mulhouse, France. No. 241A65 herself is based at Full-Reuenthal near the Swiss town of Koblenz on the border with Germany.

This locomotive was originally Etat No. 241.001 and, had a tender fitted with a water scoop (only to be found on the Etat) and removed when transferred to SNCF (Est) following WW2 and removed by 1950.

I think that this locomotive SNCF No. 241A65 has been used in the 2017 remake of Murder on the Orient Express as the loco in the new trailer looks like this one??
