The former Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad Baldwin built 2-6-6-2 No. 1309 steamed and moved for the very first time on New Years Eve 2020. This marks the end of its restoration as No. 1309 will enter service on the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad in 2021 as the largest steam locomotive to run on a American tourist railroad.

As of writing this note, the WSMR plans to get the 1309 back into service this July.

The return of 1309 has been delayed. The crew has no more funding at the moment and has temporarily put the restoration on halt. Hopefully, it will not be long before more funds are put to the restoration and 1309 will be back soon.

1309 will soon say farewell to the B&O museum. It has just been announced that the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad will acquire and move the locomotive to Cumberland to be restored for operation, as a result of an agreement that was reached between the railroad and the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Museum. The move to get 1309 out of Baltimore to Cumberland is expected to take place this summer.
