Mt. Lyell Mining & Railway Co. Abt No 5. is the final rack steam loco ordered by the railway. When the railway closed in 1963 No 5 was moved to the Menzies Creek open air museum next to the Menzies Creek station on the Puffing Billy railway in Victoria. It was plinthed on a special stone incline. With tunnel giving access to view the rack & pinion drive under the loco. In 2003 it was returned to Tasmania and was overhauled in Hobart by Saunders & Ward, the firm which had overhauled No 1 & No 3. Was back in service by 2006.

Four of the Five Mt. Lyell rack engines survive. Apparently Abt No 4, Dubs 4085, when the line closed was used by the company to provide steam at a limestone quarry. Seems it was later buried there!
