Wx18 was originally built as a W class. The class of 35 locos worked everywhere & on all types of trains on the South Australian narrow gauge lines. 16 of the class were given new boilers between 1903 & 1912 and became the Wx class.

Wx18 entered service in 1880, was converted to Wx class in 1911 and withdrawn in 1959. It had spent its working life on the Naracoorte to Kingston line. It was the last narrow gauge steam loco to operate freight trains on this line. It was displayed along with loco V9 at Pioneer Park, Naracoorte. In 1985 it moved to Quorn. It has been dismantled there and for some reason little appears to have been done over the last few years.

The workshop at Quorn does a huge amount of work. Along with keeping the railway line to Port Augusta operating it must keep the volunteers working flat out.
