P117 is one of a class of 20 locomotives introduced in 1884 to work Adelaide suburban passenger trains. The first five were UK built but the rest were built in Australia. Displaced by the larger F class from 1902, they took up minor duties. Ended their working lives as shunters mainly at Port Adelaide & Birkenhead, both docks complexes on opposite sides of the Port Adelaide river. Except for a few early withdrawals most lasted till 1956/57 when replaced by diesel shunters. P117 was a built by James Martin, South Australia and in service by 1893. Withdrawn in 1956. Preserved at Mile End Museum 1964, now at Port Adelaide.
