#12 left in two shipments to Ohio. The first on November 18th, 2011 (tender only) and the engine on February 2, 2012. It arrived at the Age of Steam Roundhouse on February 7, 2012 and was succesfully unloaded February 8,2012. Plans are to rebuild #12 over the next 2-3 years to operating condition. It saddened me to see her leave but I felt relief knowing where she was headed and what the next step in her carreer will be. Operating condition. I wish the folks in Ohio all the best. Let's put the rumors to rest on this locomotive. First it is privately owned and on private property. From 1991-1996, there was considerable effort to restore the railroad as a tourist line. #12 was greased and moved to the shop from the white storage building. In 1992, her smokebox was repainted along with touching up her jacket. She was on display in 1993 and 1994 for a couple of weekends. Her mechanical condition is excellent. Her boiler, of course, needs a 1472 day inspection. She has a few staybolt caps that need replacement. Her tender needs a few patches but is rebuildable. All of her jewlery has been removed a safely stored. I can tell you all of this because I am the man in the photo and worked on the property from 1990 to 1996. I am no longer involved in this project but am still involved in saving the history of the Morehead and North Fork Railroad and am building a 1/8th scale model of M&NF #9 a 1904 Rogers Mogul 2-6-0.

#12 is still on the old MN&F property in Clearfield and as far as I know, is still sitting waiting for a future in the old MN&F enginehouse unaccessable to the public.

Does anyone know if the # 12 might be available for a RR museum in KY. We are looking for a small 0-6-0 or 2-8-0 type steam locomotive.

Thanks,

Hugh

M&NF #12 is kept in a shed in Clearfield, Kentucky in what used to be the yard used by the M&NF until the C&O mainline through Morehead was abandoned and severed the railroad from the outside world.

Attemps were made to turn the fours miles left of the M&NF mainline into a tourist railroad and restore #12 to operating condition. But plans never got any further than a few "M&NF Days" held by the town where #12 was displayed along side an original M&NF wooden boxcar and the Baldwin RS-12 the railroad was using when it was closed.

#12, the boxcar, and the Baldwin are still in Clearfield but are guarded. It has been rumored that #12 is in excellent condition and that except for the replacemnt of flues and boiler tubes is mechanically capable of running as is.
