The original design of the GER was class S69, but this one was from the 1928 batch built for the LNER, and therefore it is incorrect to describe it as a Great Eastern Railway locomotive as by 1928, the GER had become part of the LNER. Indeed, it is in rebuilt appearance with a larger LNER boiler with a different firebox design than the GER built locos carried before rebuilding.

Has it really been 10 years already? The iconic B12 8572 has been taken out of service for her next 10 year overhaul. According to what I have heard, they hope to complete the overhaul relatively quickly.

The reason for 8572 visit to the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway being cancelled was down to transportation problems in bringing the locomotive there and back.

This is an unusual UK 4-6-0, as it has inside cylinders, unlike most other British 4-6-0 types. Originally built for the Great Eastern Railway to the designs of their CME, Holden, some were built for the LNER later on. This is the sole survivor of the class and is preserved in its rebuilt condition with a round topped firebox (Original would have been a Belpaire) and the cover over the coupling rods cut away - this was a real feature of the original design. Preserved and not restored for a long time, it was overhauled in Germany and now visits other railways, but its spiritual home is in East Anglia, where it is normally based.
