The 72XX Class 2-8-2Ts were the only 2-8-2Ts built for use in the UK and were rebuilds of Great Western Railway 5205 Class 2-8-0Ts. Originally built in 1930 as 5205 Class 2-8-0T No. 5275 for use on Coal Trains in South Wales. But this was short as Coal traffic was drying up and it was placed in storage and then it was rebuilt as the very first 72XX Class 2-8-2T No. 7200 at Swindon works in 1934. No. 7200 is one of three surviving 72XX 2-8-2Ts in preservation which survived through Dai Woodham Scrapyard at Barry Island in South Wales. No. 7200 is in the final stages of restoration at its base at the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre as its cab has been refitted along with new side tanks and coal bunker and smoke box and is due to be moved to the up yard at Quainton Road for final finishing off.
