The BR built LMS Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 No. 46441, is staying on at the East Lancashire Railway for the winter season to help with their Santa Specials over the Christmas season and will return home to the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway in the early New Year.

The BR built LMS Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 No. 46441, will be visiting the East Lancashire Railway for their upcoming Autumn Steam Gala from the 17th to 19th of October 2025. No. 46441 has not been seen at the East Lancashire Railway since the early 2000’s and its visit then will be welcome return to the railway following its recent overhaul.

The BR built LMS Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 No. 46441 has successfully hauled its first loaded test train along the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway, making its set to return to service, and it was also the first time in 56 years the locomotive had worked along the Lakeside & Haverthwaite line as it had work along the line in the days of British Railways.

The overhaul on the BR built LMS Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 No. 46441 has now been completed, as the locomotive was steamed and moved under its own power for the first time since 2002. With No. 46441 operational again, the locomotive will begin testing and running in trials before entering service at the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway in 2024.

The overhaul on the BR built LMS Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 No. 46441 is now in its final stages as the boiler has returned from its overhaul at West Coast Railway Company’s depot at Carnforth in Lancashire, and after fitting of the ashpan it was placed back onto the frames of the locomotive. The cab was also refitted and work is underway refitting all the cab fittings and controls. No. 46441 will be turned out in the BR Midland Region Red livery it is currently in, when it returns to service at the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway in 2024.

The Beet family s LMS Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 No. 46441 has left the Ribble Steam Railway where it has been on display since 2002 and relocated to the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway. The locomotive arrived there on the 16th of April 2018 where it will be overhauled back in to service and based there as part of there steam running fleet.

46441 is not operational as it is well out of boiler certificate. It is currently on display in the Ribble Steam Railway museum awaiting overhaul by its owners.
