The ex Southern Railway rebuilt Bulleid West Country Class Light Pacific No. 34046 "Braunton", is visiting the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway for the first time for their upcoming Steam Gala from the 19th to 22nd of March 2026.

The ex Southern Railway rebuilt Bulleid West Country Class Light Pacific No. 34046 "Braunton", will be on display in light steam at the West Somerset Railway at the Bay Platform at Bishops Lydeard Station, during their Spring Steam Spectacular, from the 3rd to 6th of May 2024.

A brand new inner steel firebox has arrived at LNWR Heritage at Crewe for ex Southern Railway rebuilt Bulleid West Country Class Light Pacific No. 34046 "Braunton" in readiness to replace her current firebox in her next overhaul. "Braunton" herself is still operational and has a good season ahead out on the mainline and heritage railway circuit in 2023.

34046 Braunton will be paying a visit to the East Lancashire Railway during August, running alongside air-smoothed sister 34092 City of Wells. She was last at the ELR from 2012-2013, when she undertook running-in duties before returning to the main line.

Having been running as No. 34052 "Lord Dowding" since 2016 No. 34046 "Braunton" will be returning to her true West Country Class Identity with her own name and number plates refitted this year.

No. 34046 "Braunton" will be heading to the West Somerset Railway for a 3 month stay from the 15th of August to October to be extra motive power there for the late summer and early autumn season.

I found out why No. 34046 "Braunton" is still running as No. 34052 "Lord Dowding" still and the reason is for the 100th anniversary of the Royal Air Force this year. Which Lord Dowding him self played a big part in the Battle of Britain during the Second World War.

No. 34046 "Braunton" made its first mainline run this year on Locomotive Services' second railtour today over the Welsh Marches but was still running as long lost rebuilt Bulleid Battle of Britain Class Light Pacific No. 34052 "Lord Dowding". It is unknown for how long the loco will stay in this current guise.

Having ran for the last two years as long lost rebuilt Bulleid Battle of Britain Class Pacific No. 34052 Lord Dowding. No. 34046 "Braunton" will run as its true West Country Class self with her own name and number plates refitted this year. Currently at Southall Depot in West London No. 34046 will soon return to LNWR Heritage at Crewe to be ready to work the first of Locomotive Services mainline charter trains this year along with 46100 "Royal Scot" and No. 70000 "Britannia".

When 34046 returns in April it will appear in the guise of a long loss srapped Builled pacific Battle of Britain Class No. 34052 Lord Dowding.

Work on 34046 is nearly completed and should be done at the end of the year and the loco will be back on the mainline next year.

34046 is currently at Crewe under going a boiler overhaul and should be back on the mainline in the spring.

The loco reqires a replacement trailing coupled axle which may delay completion.

4046 Braunton is a rebuilt ex Southern Railway West Country Class 7P5F 4-6-2 Pacific of a type that was once common on the nearby Waterloo - Exeter line.  She is being restored by the WSRA at Williton and is on a fast track to completion.

Weight: 90 tons 1 cwt.(loco)

Driving wheel diameter: 6' 2"

Boiler pressure: 250 lb/sq.in.

Tractive effort: 27,715 lb

Cylinders: (3) 18 1/2"x 30"
