despite what I considered to be reliable information, this loco has not moved to Preston. It was still at Shildon on Saturday, September 6th September 2008.

The London & North Western styled itself as 'The Premier Line', running from Euston to Carlisle, but serving many of England's main cities in the north and west en route. The L&NWR was absorbed by the LMS in the 1923 grouping and its designs were gradually replaced by LMS standard designs. As a result we have a less than representative group of survivors, especially of their express passenger locos and mixed traffic locos, which is a pity. Thankfully, we do have some of their designs, and this little saddle tank is one of them. One of Ramsbottom's designs, it owes its survival, as do many pre-grouping locos, to being sold into industrial service. Being bought by a chemical firm, which later became part of ICI, it was presented by them for preservation in the 1950's
