This very small engine looks much older than it is. Like many small UK built shunting engines, its design shows little development from the early 20th century. It shunted wagons at a chemical works in Mirfield, West Yorkshire for its working life, and then became the first locomotive on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. Once that railway became established, there was little work available for such a small engine, and it has now moved to the Middleton, in Leeds. Close to home, in fact, as Hudswell Clarke, the builders, was a Leeds firm. The photo was taken at Goathland, North Yorkshire Moors Railway.
