Carron No.17, an 0-6-0 tank engine was built in 1911 by Andrew Barclays (construction number 1245) at their Caledonia Works in Kilmarnock, Scotland. for the Carron Iron Company, and was used at that company’s Craigend Colliery in Stirlingshire, Scotland. Later in her career she was to be found at Methil Colliery Fife and T.Muir Metals. Since October 2004 she has been resident on the Lakeside & Haverthwaite Railway, Cumbria, where here restoration has just been completed. Her resemblance to “Thomas the Tank Engine” often results in the addition of a face mask on the smokebox.
