1493 was built for James Oakes and Co. for use at Pye Hill Colliery in Nottinghamshire. It was built with a very low cab because of a low bridge on the colliery rail system. Eventually it was reduced to a standby role before preservation on the Battlefield Line in 1971. By 1989, it was due for an overhaul, but this wasn't completed and the loco moved to the Middleton Railway where the overhaul continues in the workshop.
