LNER D49 Class 4-4-0 No. 246 "Morayshire" is returning home to the Bo’ness & Kinneil Railway but unfinished from her overhaul which has staled sadly as the Llangollen Railway who were overhauling the locomotive for the Scottish Railway Preservation Society ran into finance problems. With work on the new Steaming Ahead Project at Bo’ness underway No. 246 will have to go into storage till her overhaul can be restarted or a new contractor comes foreword to complete the overhaul?

Gresley's 4-4-0 design, which became widespread on the LNER's secondary passenger services. There were two classes: the 'Hunts' named after foxhunts like 'The Goathland', and the 'Shires' named after counties. This is, of course, a 'Shire', fitted with Walschearts valve gear. Some others had Caprotti gear. This photo was taken at the Doncaster plant, where many locos, steam, diesel and electric, began their lives from the Great Northern, the LNER, British Railways, and, the last one (so far) from RFS. The occasion was the 150th anniversary of the works, known as 'the plant'.
