Ownership of ex LMS 4F 0-6-0 No. 44422, has now tranferred from the 44422 Locomotive Company Ltd. to the North Staffordshire Railway Company (1978) Ltd. early this year, and they have now launched an appeal to fund the next ovehaul to return No. 44422 to service again in time for its 100th birthday in 2027. The ex LMS 4F 0-6-0 No. 44422, has been moved into the shed at Cheddleton on the Churnet Valley Railway, for an inspection of its boiler and an oppertunity for a cosmetic make over and to have a repaint.

The arrival of ex LMS 4F 0-6-0 No. 44422 to the Churnet Valley Railway is a bit of a home coming for the locomotive as No. 44422 was restored from Dai Woodham Scrapyard condition there in the 1990s and was their flagship locomotive. Now after 10 years away but not currently in working order No. 44422 will undergo full assessment during the early part of 2020 with a view to overhaul the loco back into service again.

The ex LMS 4F 0-6-0 No. 44422 has now left the West Somerset Railway and is relocating to the Churnet Valley Railway at Cheddleton in Staffordshire which will be the locomotive’s new home.

It has sadly been confirmed by the owners of 44422 that a decision has been made to withdraw the loco from active service early following the discovery of the poor condition of several of the firebox stays. It is due to be transferred to Peak Rail in July where it will be overhauled and then based for at least five years.
