It has been confirmed that ex CEGB Rye House Power Station Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn built 0-4-0ST Works No. 7386 "Birkenhead" has indeed been relocated to the Strathspey Railway at Aviemore in the Highlands of Scotland, but only for a contracted overhaul for the Royal Deeside Railway. When complete "Birkenhead" will take up residence as part of the Royal Deeside Railway’s running fleet.

Spotted in the yard outside the main shed of the Strathspey Steam Railway, in Aviemore. Saddle tank has been removed from frames. May be awaiting overhaul, or being stripped for parts to assist in the overhaul of fellow Stephenson locomotive 0-6-0st No. 9.

The ex CEGB Rye House Power Station Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn built 0-4-0ST Works No. 7386 "Birkenhead" has been sold to the Royal Deeside Railway at Milton of Crathes in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Where it is now located and awaiting overhaul.

Robert Stephenson & Hawthorn built 0-4-0ST No. 7386 "Birkenhead" is located at the Elsecar Heritage Railway in Yorkshire. Where the locomotive is currently laid up awaiting repairs but is now likely to be put up for sale following the news its owners the GWR Preservation Group is to be disbanded and sell off all its rolling stock.
