Following its duties with the WD, the locomotive was purchased by the then Manchester Collieries in 1946, working at pits in Walkden and Leigh, Lancashire. It gained it’s name from a late superintendent of the Manchester Collieries company prior to nationalisation as the NCB, also not recognised on the principal page of this file.
