The ex Dinorwic Slate Quarries Quarry Hunslet 0-4-0ST Works No. 409 "Velinheli", is visiting Beamish Open Air Museum for their Festival of Transport Event from the 31st of May to the 1st of June 2025.

The overhaul on ex Dinorwic Slate Quarries Quarry Hunslet 0-4-0ST Works No. 409 "Velinheli", has now been completed and the locomotive is now ready for testing before entering service again.

The ex Dinorwic Slate Quarries Quarry Hunslet 0-4-0ST Works No. 409 "Velinheli" is no longer based at the Launceston Steam Railway, as she is now located and based at the Ffestiniog Railway at Porthmadog, Gwynedd in North Wales. Where she is in the final stages of her overhaul and rebuild which has seen a brand new boiler built, and is expected to be in steam again in the next few months and afterwords the locomotive will go out on hire to other heritage narrow gauge railways around the UK.

Ex Dinorwic Slate Quarries Quarry Hunslet 0-4-0ST "Velinheli" will be visiting London Kings Cross Station where it will be on display from the 10th to the 18th of February 2019 to promote for the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railways.

Some more information has come that Ex Dinorwic Slate Quarries Quarry Hunslet 0-4-0ST "Velinheli" is not currently operational as its still under overhaul and having its new boiler made still. But it is taking part at the Hunslet 125 event at the Ffestiniog Railway but on display only.

Ex Dinorwic Slate Quarries Quarry Hunslet 0-4-0ST "Velinheli" will be making its debut back in to traffic with its new boiler fitted at the Hunslet 125 event on the Ffestiniog Railway from the 22nd to 24th of June 2018. After that the loco will return home to the Launceston Steam Railway in Cornwall.

The quarry hunslet "Velinheli" has been withdrawn from service as it is in need of a new boiler to be built and fitted as the 92 year-old boiler it has on is now deemed to be life-expired.

“Velinheli” is an 0-4-0ST built in 1886 by Hunslet, of Leeds to 1’11½” gauge. She worked at the Dinorwic Slate Quarry, Wales until withdrawn from service in 1962. She is privately owned by James Evans and was based on the Inny Valley Railway until 1986. Currently, she is fully operational at the Launceston Steam Railway but she frequently visits other compatible railways, such as the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland. 8th July 2007
