The ex British Sugar Corporation Hudswell Clarke built 0-6-0T Works No. 1800 "Thomas" (the first official real live Thomas the Tank Engine locomotive named by the Rev. W. Awdry himself) has made a welcome return to service at the Nene Valley Railway and will be hauling trains into the New Year.

The ex British Sugar Corporation Hudswell Clarke built 0-6-0T Works No. 1800 "Thomas" (the first official real live Thomas the Tank Engine locomotive named by the Rev. W. Awdry himself) is now back operational at the Nene Valley Railway again and should be in steam over the Christmas season during their Santa Express Trains and other Christmas events on into the New Year too.

The overhaul on former British Sugar Corporation Hudswell Clarke built 0-6-0T Works No. 1800 "Thomas" (the first official real live Thomas the Tank Engine locomotive named the Rev. W. Awdry himself) has now been completed, with just a few jobs left such as final fitting of pipework, air pump and brick arch to finish off, before testing can get underway. If all goes well "Thomas" could be steaming at the Nene Valley Railway over the Christmas season this winter.

The former British Sugar Corporation Hudswell Clarke built 0-6-0T Works No. 1800 "Thomas" has had to be taken out of service having been failed due to a leaking tube. So the Nene Valley Railway has taken the desion to retube the boiler and have extra work carried out to give "Thomas" a fresh new 10 year boiler ticket which should see the locomotive continue running until 2032.

"Thomas" has returned to traffic following some repairs carried out the past few months and will be in steam over the Christmas season at the Nene Valley delighting the Children during their Santa Specials.

The former British Sugar Corporation Hudswell Clarke built 0-6-0T was named "Thomas" by the author of the famous Thomas the Tank Engine and friends books the Rev. W. Awdry himself in 1971. It was the first official real live Thomas the Tank Engine locomotive. "Thomas" was bought for preservation by the Peterborough Railway Society in 1973 and moved to the Nene Valley at round the same time. "Thomas" is still delighting his friends and the children of all ages and there familys still.

Thomas is currently being overhauled and is due back in traffic possibly in the spring this year.
