Although this locomotive was initially, and probably thoughout its working life, based at Markham Main Colliery, Armthorpe, Doncaster from 1953, it was actually supplied to the NCB, under whose austipices the collery had fallen in 1946. Thus the origins of Arthur need to be corrected!

The former Markham Main Colliery Hunslet built 16inch cylindered 0-6-0ST Works No. 3782 "Arthur" is currently in the process of being rebuilt as a 0-6-0T. As the locomotive is being turned out as Thomas the Tank Engine and has seen a lot of work carried out which has seen new front and rear buffer beams fitted and a new rear frame strecher fitted, as well as having the cylinders bored and sleeved along with boiler and firebox repairs which has seen new sections in the firebox. The side tanks and cab are being painted and when complete "Arthur" will be the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre’s new Thomas the Tank Engine locomotive for Days out with Thomas events as well as going on hire to other preserved railways around the UK.
