The locomotive was recently acquired by US Sugar and plans to move it south to Clewiston, FL are underway. Move’s expected to take place in August.

to Matt Gardner: I am actually not surprised at all. I remember hearing the boiler water treatment on the ACL was beyond inexcusably inconsistent. Extremely acidic water treatment because the water was loaded in salt from the Carolinas in the early to mid 1940s and 50s. 1031 at Spencer would need exactly the same thing because her boiler plating has worn out too thin everywhere due to the acidic water treatment in her steam days.

I overheard a conversation that there is a very reputable man in charge of restoring this engine. He looked at it, and saw it needs a new boiler. When he approached US Sugar about this, saying he needed their permission to spend the money for one, they simply said not to ask, just do it!

1504 was selected for preservation by ACL president Champion Davis and John W.hawthorne , head of the ACL Mechanical Department. In 1960, after some years in storage, the engine was givin a thorough mechanical overhaul and placed on display in front of the then ACL General Office Building in Jacksonville, Fl. The 1504 has since been cosmetically restored and moved the nearby Prime Osborn Convetion Center. The retoration has not altered the engine mechanically in any way, and because the engine has seen no service since its last overhaul, restoration to service at a future date is possible. The Prime Osborn Convention Center was originally the jacksonville terminal co. Depot built in 1919, the same year as the 1504 was built. 1504 spent much of its life pulling passenger trains in and out of the depot, so its enshrinement here is particularly fitting . on june 07 i went down to see her and she needs a little help right now but i was able to sneak in here cab and opened the firebox door a peeked inside and she wasnt that bad (but i didn't have a flashlight)

she needs some panel work the tender has a couple of small rust through spot and all of the wood is rotted away  i would love to help restore her to former glory
