Info About 3: Number 3 was built in 1943 by Vulcan Iron Works for the US army. She has no record during that time, but all we know is that 3 was sold to the Wawa and Concordville RR in 1963. If you don’t know already, the W&C was a tourist line startup that failed. Anyways, after W&C closed, 3 was purchased in 1976 by Brain woodcock who in 1980 donated to the HRCV (aka W&W). They repaired her and put 3 to service while 98 got repairs. She helped too when 98 got back hauling trains up the grades. W&W didn’t need her anymore, and they sold 3 to Queen Anne RR in 1989. 3 operated there from 1991-1996, it seemed like the end though, but she was purchased and moved on display to Nasau De. Then 3 was moved in 2003 to ocean view, DE near where ocean view met Bethany beach. Soon after a restaurant was built here and acquired 3 and some new haven coaches which were converted into restaurants. The first restaurant lasted from 2006-2011 and was called the Royal Zephyr. The second restaurant is called the Salted Rim, which opened in 2015 and kept the locomotive. Apparently, 3 was going to be sold for scrap or purchased. But This photo here from 2022 means it still exists , which is the latest thing I have on 3.

I heard from the operator of the tourist railroad I volunteer at that the owner of this restaurant wants this locomotive, and the two coaches that it is with gone, and he is going to scrap them if there is no taker. He is listing them as a pack for $50,000, considering that the engine has run in recent years, and everything is in good shape. He is going to only get $7,000 for the engine if scrap comes in. So, anyone interested in a tank engine?

The restaurant has reopened as The Salted Rim. They offer railroad themed events.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/leecannon/5006302801/ judging from these 2010 pix on flickr, 3 is actually in good outer shape. the entire property of the diner looks like its being maintained.

The restaurant is now closed. The dining cars were ex New Haven, not PRR. Status of the equipment is unknown. This Engine should never have left the W&W.

The engine is now located in Ocean View, DE and is indeed part of the Royal Zephy Restuarant which just opened in late June 2006.  The Royal Zephyr Restaurant consists of the engine and two ex-Pennsylvania passenger cars which have been converted for dining.  One car is open for lunch and dinners, the other, by reservation only, is an upscale restaurant serving dinners.  The staff and food were very good (I've got to go back and try the fine dining menu).  The fine dining car exudes the ambiance of what the finest train's dining car must have been like--elegant begins to describe it.

This locomotive was moved in late summer 2003 from Nasau Delaware to Ocean View Delaware.  I searched for it in October 2003, and did not find it.  I called the company that has it, a construction company, the assured me the locomotive is viweable and just off of the main road connecting Ocean View and Bethany Beach.  It is a little hidden, as they are building a shopping center where it is.  The locomotive and cars will become a restaurant in the future.   Where have you gone, Wawa and Concordville Railroad?

The only engine ever to "double head" with any other locomotive over the enitre line of the Wilmington & Western because of its light weight, with regard to bridge weight restrictions. It had the pulling power though and the engine came in handy on 6-8 car fall foliage runs up the "S" curved grades though Wooddale,(0.85%) Mt.Cuba (0.87%), Yorklyn(1%) and Hockessin Hill(1.5%) with the 4-4-0 #98!

This locomotive is now stored near Lewes, DE. It was sold to the Queen Annes RR around 1989 and operated from 1991 through about 1996. It is now out of service.
