W.T. Cater & Brother #1 is a wood burner. Change Fuel: Oil to Fuel: Wood. Also Change Empty Weight: 75,000 LBS, Tractive Effort: 12,000 LBS. Thanks.

I heard from a worker from down at The Reader Railroad that The ES&NA RR #1 is returning back home to The ES&NA RR.

It actually would not take much work to get this locomotive operational. The problem with this is that she has a Lap Seam boiler which was mandated, at about the time this engine was taken out of sevice, to be illegal in the state of Arkansas to operate. #201 has a different type of rivited boiler which is legal to operate, but that locomotive is estimated to need a $250,000 rebuild. If #1 could be moved to another state she could easily be restored and brought into operation.

Engine #1 does NOT burn oil.....she is wood fired, and it is a shame she isn't running anymore. One of very few engines in the U.S. still wood fired. A real Gem of an engine.

Spoke with an owner, David Dortch, in early August. State boiler inspector wants the boiler pipes turned and welded shut, which nullifies original specs and costs a lot of money. (This locomotive does not appear to have been converted to oil ... doesn't have an oil tank aboard its tender, anyway. May have been removed for display.)

Was at the railroad yesterday. Acording to the crew #1 is just waiting on some paper work back from the state, and could be running in September
