Climax 3 is currently out of service for repairs. Heisler No. 6 from the Cass Scenic Railroad is currently filling in for No. 3.

This locomotive continues to be operational as of July 2007, however the Durbin Rocket is not running this summer due to some significant damage to a bridge not far from Durbin Depot.   The railroad is awaiting repairs being made by FEMA and their best estimate was that the "Rocket" would probably not run until September or October of 2007 at the earliest.

as a past member of the ct trolley museum i spent many years helping to restore  Climax #3, i have video of its initial test runs and many photos of restoration progress, i loved being involved in its restoration and miss having the chance to ride her. i have one of the orginial signed hand drawing of #3 (print) . maybe i'll have a chance this summer to see her up close again

Climax #3 was built in 1910 for Moore and Kepple. In 1964 It was sold to the Connecticut Trolley Museum ( www.ceraonline.org ) where It was restored to it's original appearence. It sat on display in their visitor's center until 2001 when the musuem decided to sell all of it's steam equiptment to focus more on the preservation of electric traction. On November 12 2001 it was shipped off to the D&GB scenic RR.

As of Sep 04, there was a dismantled 3 truck Heisler beside the maintenance shed (adjacent to the blue flat car and out of view). Future plans call for it to be rebuilt per the crewman working the run that day.

Construction number 1059, Weight on drivers 110,000lbs, original boiler pressure 180psi, present boiler pressure 125psi Fuel Coal.  I will be the engineer on it this week end and find out the rest of the information
